I’ve lived in the Chesapeake Bay area my whole life. I’ve never owned a boat (beyond a canoe) but have been lucky enough to be a passenger on several boats over the years. I love the exhilarating feel of sails catching the wind.

I’ve long been fascinated with the traditional workboats of the watermen, particularly the skipjack and the deadrise.

I recently saw a photo online of a deadrise, which gave me the inspiration to try to draw/paint this one in my art journal.

I’d like to create a larger painting of a deadrise at some point in oils or acrylics. However, this little journal is the perfect solution to keep up with my New Year’s resolution of practice, practice, pratice!
